Conservation FAQ's
How does my purchase support the environment?
Your purchase directly helps protect one of the world’s most powerful natural carbon stores — Irish peat bogs. Every plot sold funds:
⦁ The preservation of bogland from turf cutting and development
⦁ Habitat protection for native plants, birds, and pollinators
⦁ Donations to grassroots conservation groups like the Peatlands Council
⦁ Ongoing land stewardship and public awareness efforts
You’re not just holding a piece of land — you’re helping to restore one of Ireland’s most endangered ecosystems.

How can one small plot make a real difference?
It’s a fair question — and the answer is, it’s not just about your individual plot. By protecting your piece of bogland, you're helping safeguard a fragile ecosystem. But the real impact comes from what your purchase helps us do at scale. Every order supports:
⦁ Donations to larger restoration projects through organisations like the Peatlands Council
⦁ Our ongoing public awareness campaigns, bringing peatland conservation into the spotlight
⦁ The creation of a growing community of land stewards who collectively preserve more than any one plot ever could
One plot may be small — but as part of a bigger movement, it helps tip the balance toward real, lasting change.

Why bogland? What makes it so important?
Peat bogs are among the most powerful natural carbon sinks on Earth — storing more carbon per hectare than rainforests. They also support rare wildlife, regulate water systems, and preserve layers of ancient history in their soil. Ireland’s bogs have suffered decades of damage. By protecting even a small plot, you’re playing a part in Ireland’s ecological recovery and climate resilience.

General FAQ's
What am I buying when I purchase from The Auld Sod?
You’re securing a 25-year renewable leasehold interest in a uniquely numbered plot of Irish bogland. Your lease is formally recorded and can be renewed indefinitely, giving you a long-term, personal connection to that land. It’s a meaningful and lasting way to help protect Ireland’s wild landscapes — and to hold a place within them.
Is the plot really mine?
Yes — your name is officially recorded as leaseholder of a uniquely numbered plot, and that lease can be renewed into the future. The land is held in trust for conservation, meaning it will never be developed or sold. Your connection to that plot is secure, lasting, and fully documented.
Can I visit the land?
Yes — Plot owners are welcome to view the bogland from a dedicated viewing area nearby. To protect the habitat and support our long-term restoration and preservation efforts, access to the bog itself is restricted. These lands are ecologically sensitive, and keeping footfall to a minimum is essential to ensuring they remain undisturbed. Your support helps us protect them exactly as nature intended.
Can I build on, plant, or decorate my plot?
No. All plots are part of a managed conservation area. No structures, plantings, or personal items are allowed. The goal is to keep the land wild and untouched, safeguarding it for wildlife, carbon storage, and future generations.
Can I gift a plot to someone else?
Absolutely — The Auld Sod makes a thoughtful and meaningful gift. During checkout, simply provide the recipient’s name and we’ll prepare the certificate in their name. It's a perfect way to share Irish heritage and environmental values in one unique package.

All plot owner names are formally recorded in our official registry, ensuring your lasting connection to the land is recognised and preserved.
Are there any extra costs after I buy?
None. There are no hidden fees, taxes, or renewal charges. Your one-time purchase price supports both your plot ownership and our ongoing environmental initiatives.
